Bantering About Gran Torino

I caught Gran Torino download vice divx a couple weeks back and was truly impressed of how good it was. Clint Eastwood plays an angry old Korean War Veteran, who is the lone remaining American in a bad neighborhood being overrun by immigrants. He begins to develop a father-son relationship with one of his immigrant neighbors and helps this boy fight through a local gang. How did this movie not get nominated for Best Picture?
