Snap Review of Grizzly Man
Posted by Craig Kessler on March 25, 2009 at 2:30 am
Before Bear Grylls took over extreme survival programming on TV, there was Timothy Treadwell. A man with a passion for Grizzly Bears, he took it to the extremes when he decided to dedicate his life to studying these bears for 13 consecutive summers. In the end, he was mauled and eaten by the bears who he claimed to be protecting.
This is such an unusual story centered around an unusual man. He seems like a savior to nature but only ends up puzzling the viewer as you watch his videos and learn about his life and his past troubles. Was this man truly dedicated to nature and helping people learn about the bears. Or was he just a confused and troubled person looking for his own personal identity which he found in a character he created.

I agree, this was one of the weirdest documentary I have seen. I thought it was pretty disturbing. Because as you said he thought he was a bear, but at the same time the bears left him alone for a while.
But then again if you’re going to play with bears, even if they want to play back they’ll kill you because… they’re bears!!!
Yeah, that documentary left me thinking about it for a while. Ha.
@Sandie I agree, it also freaked me out in a bit. After hearing all the past troubles with alcohol and not having his acting career take off, it almost seems like this is all an act and a cry for help. When they asked some local natives about the relationship with the bears, they mention that its this kind of unwritten rule that they leave each other along. He danced with the devil and lost.
I was honestly amazed with how well this blog was done, beautiful layout, professional writing, great job!
