Christian Bale has signed onto the Mark Wahlberg project The Fighter about Irish blue collar boxer Mickey Ward. Bale will be playing Wahlberg’s half brother Dickey Eklund in the role. I am a boxing fan and have had the pleasure to watch Ward fight before. The first time was when I stumbled upon him fighting Arturo Gatti in what turned out to be a brawl bash and winning fight of the year leaving me and everyone else who saw the fight stunned. But will it work? I love Wahlberg, and think he will be great in this role.

He is a guy from Boston and has been boxing for years so he is definitely the perfect man for this role. hancock dvdrip download And he will be in excellent shape for the role, he will be back to the great looking Calvin Klein ads of the past, yea I said great looking. If there is one many to pull it off, it’s him. But can he lead the movie? As much as I like Wahlberg and think he’s an excellent actor, I never thought he was a good leading man. He may be the best supporting actor as seen in many of his roles, but as leading man, he hasn’t fully stole the show and produced a real huge hit.

This isn’t the type of movie to turn into a huge hit, but has potential to earn a great cult following that could be remembered if done right.

Brings me to my next point. Will it be done right? Darren Aronofsky, director of The Wrestler was supposed to be the man behind the camera, and later pulled off. Maybe he felt it was too similar in many ways to The Wrestler which forced him off, I have no idea. David O. Russell who has directed I Love Huckabees will be directing, which is definitely a step down. Aronofsky has great vision, Russell, has mediocrity so far. So far the movie is gearing towards a downward slope.

But now with Bale confirmed to be in the movie, it adds another level of credibility to this movie. Not saying that Wahlberg doesn’t bring that, but by himself it’s very questionable, and this is coming from a fans view. Bale has been hot in everything he has touched lately, and his star power will only grow after Terminator Salvation comes out in May.

Kim Possible: The Secret Files Adding him to the movie may be exactly what pushes The Fighter to be a more mainstream movie, one I am looking forward to see.
