In The Taking of Pelham 123, Denzel Washington stars as New York City subway dispatcher Walter Garber, whose ordinary day is thrown into chaos by an audacious crime: the hijacking of a subway train.  This movie is a remake of the 1974 thriller inspired by John Godey’s best-selling book. John Travolta stars as Ryder, the criminal mastermind who, as leader of a highly-armed gang of four, threatens to execute the train’s passengers unless a large ransom is paid within one hour. As the tension mounts beneath his feet, Garber employs his vast knowledge of the subway system in a battle to outwit Ryder and save the hostages. But there’s one riddle Garber can’t solve: even if the thieves get the money, how can they possibly escape?

I’m adding a bit of estrogen to The Movie Banter but it was the testosterone (my hubbie) that chose this movie in my household. Here is how our movie banter went before we chose a movie.

Hubbie, “I really want to see Pelham 123.”

Me, “What the heck is that?”

Hubbie, “Oh you will really like this one because Denzel Washington is in the movie! Don’t you just drool over him?”

Me, “Ummm…, no he’s old news in my book as far as looks but I love his acting skills. Let me read up on the movie.”  5 minutes later. “I’m not really interested, but since you want to see it so bad, I’ll go with you.” Gabriel Iglesias: Hot and Fluffy full movie Pluto at the Zoo full movie

I was pleasantly surprised and intrigued by the storyline. I guessed the outcome of a certain situation only one time during the movie which I usually guess correctly a number of times throughout a movie. John Travolta really struck me as a serious MADMAN! Oh my gosh, he was NUTS!

I have a girlfriend of mine that told me that she loves it when John Travolta plays a bad guy. I told her that she would think that he’s really HOT then because he was out of his mind! Gals, if you feel the same way about John Travolta, then this a must see movie for you. Guys, you will get a kick out of him from some of his witty humor.

The ending was a bit of a let down because Denzel’s character is such a normal guy and for him to chase down a killer is a bit unrealistic in my mind. Now I know that most movies are unrealistic but the ending was just a tad more unrealistic than what I’m used to viewing. I would give The Taking of Pelham 123 a score of 7 out of 10 so be sure to come back to The Movie Banter and give your thoughts on this movie as well.
