Perspective about the Hangover

I saw the movie the Hangover opening weekend and although I don’t think it holds up to Old School on the classic meter and timeless scale, it will be a comedy to deal with for years.  I am sure I will Netflix right away when I have the chance.  All movie reviews for The Hangover

were great, (not from critics) but from the real critics, the fans.  Nothing beats a drunken tale about a male camaraderie themed movie featuring crazy outrageous antics, and of course boobs.  Lines from the Hangover

will be repeated for years to come, and I’m sure the wolf pack speech will be repeated once at a friend’s bachelor party in the future.

Now that I am almost 24, watching a movie like this is totally different than when I was younger.  I have been to Vegas, to spring break in college and enjoyed all what Vegas has to offer on a college seniors budget; and of course like everyone else who’s been to Vegas, have never had a “Hangoveresque” experience.  Not to say there wasn’t total drunkenness and partying and the whole whoopla, but after being there and living it up, then to see the Hangover is funny.  It’s almost comparable to seeing “She’s all That” in middle school then going off to High School only to say “that movie is ridiculous.”  You mean in high school people look 18 and not 25 and they don’t break out into a synchronized dance at prom?

Of course these are only two examples, and sure the movies aren’t realistic nor do we expect them to be.  It’s just funny to have the experience yourself then to watch a movie like this.  In some ways I’m a little jealous now that in Vegas one of my friends didn’t get drunken married, (although we tried hard), and had no encounters with Mike Tyson (although a day late from Joey Porter reeking havoc at our hotel).

Where do these writers come up with this stuff?  I have no idea, and don’t even care as long as they deliver.  I’m glad that the Hangover with all the hype and buzz was a fun movie to watch, classic lines to remember, and a nostalgic look at a weekend that was awesome with my friends, although stories that could never happen in real life.

  1. See, I actually HATED Old School annd coudln’t get through it. But I thought this was a far better movie. But lets be honest, it was silly and it was ridiculous. But, hey, I laughed and thought it was entertaiing, and even clever.

  2. @Candice,

Old School is a movie you need to watch in a group setting multiple times. The first time I saw it, I hated it to. But the more I watched it, the funnier it got. It really is an amazing movie. If you have some time, check it out again. It’s worth it

  3. @Candice Surprised you hated Old School and loved this. Similar types of movies and characters to a degree. This had more outrageous scenarios to wear Old School had more dry humor moments to it. Either way, agree, this was very funny.
