Baywatch Being Adapted into a Comedy Movie

Baywatch, the incredible classic TV show of the 80’s and early 90’s featuring very “smart” women running around in hot red bathing suits in slow motion is going to be adapted into a full screen movie comedy The Rock buy
. You heard it right….comedy. All you guys who have had that same Pam Anderson playboy stuffed under your pillow for the past 15 years can whoop it out again to help you celebrate this news.
Jeremy Garelick, the guy who brought us The Break Up, has signed on to write and direct this Baywatch movie comedy.
Defiance movie Incredible, I know. Never thought we would hear the day when we would hear news like this. In a time and age when Hollywood is just trying to bank off of any brand these days to make an easy buck, this seems to be the next step. I mean they are converting board games to movies, already have announced they are making an American Gladiators movie, why not go with something that is guaranteed to sell. Of course that is sex.
And Baywatch has plenty of it. Now taking it to the next level and making it a comedy as well. I wonder what this will be like. Will it be more of a mock as Son of the Beach, a FX comedy that was on in 2000, or will this be a straight adaptation of the show just with a humorous flow it.
Whether or not the movie is good, script makes sense or what not, we know it’s going to sell. Will it make a ton of money? Probably not, but having a couple of mid 20 year old beautiful babies with their busts flying out will guarantee at least a top 2 opening weekend total on an off weekend in the summer season. Plenty of horny teenagers and creepy older men out there who will see this movie for that reason only.
So from a studio’s point of view, it makes sense why they would do this. Exploit a brand that already exists. The show itself is arguably one of the most successful shows of all time on an international level. Forget about what it did for Hasselhoff’s career in Germany. The studio is smart to make this movie, curious to see how the comedy aspect will turn out. I think it’s smart because if they tried to take it serious, people wouldn’t show. At least making it a comedy will give it a different aspect to it allowing people to go in expecting humor and not to take the movie serious at all.
