Snap Review of The Day The Earth Stood Still

“The Day The Earth Stood Still” that came out back in December 2008 was a remake of the 1951 science fiction cult classic. This one starred Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly, and Jaden Smith (Will Smith’s kid). When the trailer hit the big screen, I was really excited for this movie. Keanu Reeves in his classic emotionless role (all his movie roles) and the beautiful and talented Jennifer Connelly. Come on, she typically does pretty good movies. However, it became one of the movies that I planned on seeing, and just never got around to it. It happens to us all. Perhaps, most of my friends anticipated this movie just sucking while I was willing to give it a shot. Well I Netflixed it in order to feed my curiosity. I was wrong, my friends were right. This movie was crap.
There was no flow, terrible dialogue, it was poorly cut, and poorly acted. All the people in this movie I guess needed a pay day. Even the comedy genius John Cleese was in this movie; like I said, payday. What really boggled my mind was that this movie was 90 minutes. I would expect a science fiction epic with a bit of adventure to run at least 2 hours. This movie could have really used some overblown action scenes to add to its non sense. Then it might become just a bad action movie, but at least somewhat entertaining. Also, for those fans of the original, Gort is back. But his presence is poorly explained and not used enough.
Rio Conchos move Palindromes buy The main theme of this movie was actually pretty cool. Aliens have come to Earth in order to save it. Except, they did not come to save us, as we, humans, are the problem. These aliens have come in order to protect Earth from humans, and to preserve its existence. The idea was also somewhat conveyed in the recent M Night Shyamaylan movie “The Happening

Keanu Reeves has perfected the role of the emotionless hero. Nobody could have been a better Neo in The Matrix, Shane Falco in “The Replacements,” or any of his roles in Chain Reaction, Street Kings, Hard Ball, Speed
etc. However, those movies were all pretty good and very entertaining. This one however, was not. I really could not wait until this movie ended. And to top it all off, the ending was terrible and abrupt.
Do not rent it even if you are a science fiction fan. This is definitely a pass. I can’t wait to send it back to Netflix.

i agree with you completely. Keanu is horrible in this movie. The plot is as bland as his acting.
Big let down! Original was a classic. Tough act to follow.

This movie was really bad. I was surprised how bad it was to be honest. Keanu is usually perfect in these roles. Too bad this was just a bad movie. Like cub fans always say, maybe next year
