Snap Review of Public Enemies
Posted by Matt Rosenberg on July 3, 2009 at 5:44 pm
Public Enemies opened up this week. The film stars Christian Bale and Johnny Depp and is directed by Michael Mann. There was a lot of hype going into this film. The overall premise is about a 1930′s bank robbing gang and the FBI’s attempt to hunt them down.
Plenty of trailers flooded your television screens for this film, and Depp makes a big return to the screen in a role other than Jack Sparrow. From the trailer alone the film had a good vibe. I’m sad to tell you that this film was just not good. Bale is now 0-2 this Summer if you include the bust that was Terminator Salvation A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddys Revenge film . Mann had this film all over the place. Poorly made and just boring.
I know I said to see it in my July 2009 Lineup
post, but please don’t. It’s not worth your time or money.

This movie was beyond bad. There were too many things wrong with it to even say but the main question I have is how a major studio saw this and allowed it to be released. Johnny Depp and Christian Bale should get back to playing pirates and superheroes
I’m torn with this one. I do agree there were dragged out scenes and it could have been far shorter than it was. it ran 2 and a half hours long. But I wish there was more to it.

I agree that there were parts of this movie that were quite boring and dragged. It’s too long (2 and a half hours) and could have definitely been cut. Bale was decent and so was Depp, but I was underwhelmed.

@Yoni & Candice,
Yoni I agree with you completely. I really did not enjoy this movie at all. Candice, it was too bad the film was so drawn out. There was a lot of hype to this movie especially because Depp and Bale were starring. These 2 are on top of their game right now. Summer 2009 is the Summer of the Bale pay check. I really did want to like this movie. Truly a shame.
Anyways, Bruno comes out of this week.
