Have you heard about this? It’s a movie called 9

and it’s generating buzz nowadays. 2009 had some great animated flicks like Coraline

, Up, Ice Age 3 and later this year Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and The Princess and the Frog; however in the trailer for 9 it specifically states that this is “definitely not your little brother’s animated movie.” 9

follows a species that I don’t know what to call as they come to life one day and discover a type of robot civilization has erupted. Now the nine characters must fight back in order to save humanity altogether.

From the plot, posters and overall idea you’d guess that 9 would be pretty much the craziest movie of the year. But early reviews have been mixed so far, critics like Mike Goodridge of website Screen International calling it a “post-apocalyptic fable notable for its visual beauty” while other critics such as Kirk Honeycutt of THR say that “by expanding the film’s length, characters and otherworldly environment things are strangely diminished.” Is 9 a brilliant drama that will be remembered for years to come, or does director Shane Acker simply take things too far?

A recent comment on one of my YouTube videos asked an interesting question: Is the movie 9

The Love Guru full movie being ruined by all of its hype? I never really noticed any hype, actually. I had always taken 9 as a quiet, apocalyptic, nerdy cartoon although it is produced by animation god Tim Burton and Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov. (It’s okay; I can’t say his last name either.) I sort of just took 9 as a good idea, not another pre-Avatar. Still, I’ll be there on 9-9-09 to check this out for myself. Hey, at least it’s not 2012.
