The new Cameron Diaz movie, “The Box,” opens tonight. Wait a sec, “The Box.” No joke, this movie is not a porno. However, you can bet yourself that a porno with this title will be hitting shelves soon. The movie also stars James Marsden (Cyclops in X-Men) and Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon). “The Box” is as bad as it looks in the trailer.
It’s about a couple who receives an offer to hit a button for a million dollars. However, pressing the button means that somebody in the world, that Diaz/Marsden don’t know, will die. Langella plays the man who offers the couple this proposal.
I thought this movie was all over the place. It had no idea what it wanted to be. It was basically a cross between an outlandish science fiction movie and a horror thriller. More often than not these movies fail to satisfy, and “The Box” was no different. It’s a choppy, over managed story that tried so hard to be something unique. In doing so, it left me with a distaste in my mouth.
The odd thing was that this movie did have some potential. There were times I thought “finally, it’s about to turn the corner.” But no, the movie failed to get over the hump. Just when pieces of the film showed promise, an insanely, laugh-out-loud, unnecessary scene destroyed any chance the movie had of being taken seriously.
For science fiction fans, you might be satisfied with the ultimate theme of the film. However, the path to reaching the conclusion on that theme made the movie a failure. Check out my video review below.

sounds like the movie is just as confusing as the trailer hints.
