Snap Review of The Book of Eli

Denzel’s new movie, The Book of Eli, is one of his better movies in some time. While he may be the most overrated actor in Hollywood, he nails the character of Eli in his new movie.  Eli is an emotionless loner who is driven by his pursuit of heading west.  He eliminates anyone who tries stepping in his way.  We do not find out the details of his journey until later in the movie, but you’ll be able to figure it out.  The same way Keanu Reeves was the perfect Neo, casting could not have found anyone better than Denzel to play Eli.  He can be aggressive yet cool, soft spoken but firm, and has the ability to transform into a violent warrior at the drop of a hat.

Do not let the previews for this movie deter you from seeing it. This movie is extremely well made.  Fight scenes were not tacky at all. They were for lack of better word ‘cool’ and most importantly believable.  The ending drags on a little bit, but the overall concept of this movie is brilliant.  It is worth noting that depending on your ideology, you might find yourself liking or disliking this movie.  However, you should try to put that aside when watching the film.

I’ve heard some knocks on this film that there was not enough fighting.  It is not the fighting that makes this movie interesting, it is the cerebral part that has you thinking the entire time.  Costarring Mila Kunis, Gary Oldman, Michael Gambon, and Malcolm McDowell, The Book of Eli is the first great movie of 2010.  I went in expecting very little, and was really blown away with how interesting it was. Especially with every movie nowadays being about post-apocalyptic society, The Hughes Brothers, the film’s directors, finally get it right. GO SEE IT

I will post my video review later.

Keep Bantering.

okay 1) Denzel is so not the most overrated actor (and i can name a few who ar ei you’d like)

    2) a very recent movie of Denzel’s (The Great Debaters) was a very good movie and one that people tend t forget about for some weird reason.

In any case, I’ll be watching this movie sometime this weekend. It doesn’t really seem like my cup of tea but I’d like to at least check it out. Thanks for your review.
