I know it’s a little late, but late is better than never. We were lucky enough to have one of our close friends, Rel Simone, to write us a guest review of ‘Sex and the City 2.’ If only it was called “Too Sex Too City.” Anyways, here is what Rel has to say.

“Carrie and the gals leave behind big city life for a luxurious vacation in Abu Dhabi in the latest Sex and the City (“SITC”) film.  Seeing this movie was similar to going to my first N-Sync concert: screaming girls everywhere, dressed to the nines with no where to go except a dark amphitheater.

I am not a die hard SITC fan, but I do enjoy the clothes. 11 of my friends, all having the same affinity to beautiful clothes, decided to go opening night. So yes, this was a girls night out.

The movie begins two years from where the original left us after Big and Carrie got married. The power couple are now happily married… or are they? Charlotte has a two year old and is facing the age old marital worries involving her gorgeous nanny… Jude law ring a bell? Samantha is still single and Miranda is the work horse in Brooklyn.  All this steady adult living doesn’t leave much space for girltime.  What are the girls to do? All expense paid trip to the middle east! Twenty-nine suitcases, ten sexual innuendos and four Maybachs later the girls arrive in exotic Abu Dhabi.

Let the culture shock and inappropriateness begin! I would venture to say their presence is beyond inappropriate and borders the land of offensive.  In the land of burkhas not Barneys, it is hard for the ladies to understand the culture. However, while they have difficulty understanding daily culture life, they have no issues identifying with the extravagant lifestyle of the upperclass Sheiks. Their hotel is gorgeous and they have a tribe of butlers waiting on their every need. As Carrie plays the tourist she takes an unexpected turn into familiar territory when she runs into her old boyfriend, Aidan.  Without giving too much away, Carrie, in Carrie-like-fashion, throws reason out the window and takes a trip down memory lane.

This movie was okay, but waiting two years for the sequel and spending six devoted seasons to the show, it definitely was a disappointment.  I thought this movie had a lot of potential to be great.  To my dismay, I thought the writers deviated a lot from the underlying foundation of the show by taking a storyline that is so connected to New York City and placing it in unfamiliar territory like the Middle East. Sure the four girls are still their crazy selves, but what defines them and inspires audiences is NYC.  The girls without New York just doesn’t translate.

If you love the girls, want a few cliche jokes and like beautiful clothing, then it’s worth checking out.  However, I have a bone to pick with Patricia Field, the films stylist, since many of Carrie’s clothes are selected for the sole purpose of cheap product placement for Sarah Jessica Parker’s new design role for Halston Heritage.  All in all it was visually appealing but was not what I have come to expect from the girls. I expected more.”
