Xbox Live and Movietickets.com Partner up in New Deal

Movietickets.com and xbox360 made a deal so the online movie ticketing service can be provided to xbox360 live users in the US. This is another partnership deal between a gaming system and a movie related service. The gaming systems are becoming more and more entertainment super systems where you can handle many multimedia functions and using it more and more as you would your home computer. The users can now use the advertisements to interact with additional movie content and to purchase tickets.
Joel Cohen, CEO, of Movietickets.com said “Working with Microsoft and the Xbox brand exposes MovieTickets.com to an entertainment-driven audience, providing the perfect opportunity to engage like-minded users with our online movie ticketing solutions.”
“We’re excited to be the first company allowing users the opportunity to interact with a movie advertising experience on Xbox Live and easily convert it into an online ticket purchase via their mobile device.”
This is another smart move by xbox bringing movies into the gaming system. I have a PS3 not an xbox 360 but only use my game system for gaming and dvd/blu-ray playing. I know tons of people across the country utilize the online services to play one another or use it to download other games, files, upload pictures and more. I’m not sure how many people plan on using the system to purchase tickets or interact with advertisements and multimedia content but it’s still a good deal for both. It puts them ahead of the game, even though right now I believe it’s too early.
Much like Apple TV is a bit ahead of its time, I don’t think users use their TVs as computers. Over time as TVs are developed more like computers and hardware is established this may be true, but now this is not the case. Even though the xbox supplies the hardware for the TV, I don’t see users using this service now. But that doesn’t make it a bad move, just a move ahead of its time, so they will be ready when users interact in this manner. Since the three main systems seem to be making similar deals one after another, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the PS3 or Wii make a similar deal with either movietickets.com or another online movie ticket service..
What do you think of the deal?
