2010 Fall Preview – 10 most anticipated films
Posted by Matt Rosenberg on September 7, 2010 at 10:16 pm
As we exit a relatively disappointing summer of movies, we enter fall and the beginning of Oscar season. This is the time of year studios release their best and brightest films in hopes to bring home Oscar gold. It also is a time when new TV series’ hit the major networks. But come on, we are way more excited for the movies. From big budget family movies (Harry Potter) to low budget character pieces (Black Swan), the 2010 lineup looks pretty good if you ask me. We at TheMovieBanter.com count down the 10 most anticipated films of fall.
10. 127 Hours – Danny Boyle brought us Slumdog and Trainspotting, as the somewhat obnoxious trailer goes, but 127 hours has generated plenty of viral buzz. When news spreads that people who have screened the film needed medical assistance, you know you have one suspenseful and thrilling film. James Franco stars in the film as Aron Ralston, the man who chopped off his arm to survive a mountain climbing tragedy. Enough said, 127 hours hits our list at 10.
9. The Fighter
This film tells the tale of “Irish” Micky Ward, the brawler who brought us some of most exciting boxing fights we have seen in recent memory. Starring Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale, The Fighter has been even compared to Rocky. When Rocky is mentioned, I am there. Even though we haven’t heard much about this film, I think it’s going to be a fall gem.
8. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader – The third of the Narnia series has to be on this list. While I was a bit disappointed with the first, the sequel, Prince Caspian, was definitely a LOT better. In this installment, both Peter and Susan are gone, and only Edmund and Lucy remain. To find out why, you will have to go see it December 10th.
7. Buried
A movie that primarily takes place in a coffin buried deep below the ground has intrigue written all over it. The movie premiered at this past Sundance and has received rave reviews. Ryan Reynolds stars in our 7th most anticipated film of Fall. See it October 8th.
6. Black Swan – Darren Aronofsky’s first film since The Wrestler, The Black Swan is a thriller that stars Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis as rival ballet dancers. The rivalry becomes incredibly dangerous and begins to threaten both women. Portman is one of the most underrated actresses of this generation. Black Swan has to be on this list. See it December 1st
5. Let Me In – The remake of the foreign smash hit Let The Right One In, Let Me In is brought to us by Matt Reeves, director of Cloverfield. The creep factor and mystique behind the film has lots of people talking, especially the digital world. Click here for an exclusive clip and photos of the film. The film hits theaters October 1st.
4. Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps – Though this film received ‘eh’ reviews in Cannes, the sequel to Wall Street has to be on the list. Gordon Gekko is one of the most interesting characters ever put on the big screen, and with a cast of Shia LaBeouf, Michael Douglas, Carrey Mulligan, Charlie Sheen, Susan Sarandon, and Josh Brolin, well people are likely going to see this film. Sure, without the recent banking failure and recession this film wouldn’t have seen the light of day, Wall Street 2 is still going hit theaters whether we like it or not. See you on Wall Street September 24th.
3. Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part I
If this was one movie it would no question be our most anticipated film of Fall, but the final Harry Potter book is being split in 2. The sixth movie was pretty weak, but Harry Potter generates plenty of intrigue and buzz. I enjoyed the seventh book and have my fingers crossed that the studio does it justice. See it November 19th.
2. Secretariat – I loved Seabiscuit, and so I get to put Secretariat as our second most anticipated film of Fall. The talented Diane Lane plays Penny Chenery, the owner of Secretariat in one of those films already generating Oscar talk. While Randall Wallace opted out of working with megastar Vincent Chase, he did indeed decide to direct this film. Secretariat is the greatest horse that ever lived. Seabiscuit was done incredibly well so I have to believe that Secretariat is going to be done even better. I’m calling it now, Secretariat will get nominated for Best Picture and perhaps could even have something to say when that ballot is opened. See it October 8th.
1. The Social Network
Facebook has completely taken over our society. The impact of social media will change the way our culture operates forever. Thus, the story of Mark Zuckerberg tops our list as the most anticipated film of Fall. Jesse Eisenberg gets his biggest role to date and the chance to show that he can do much more than be Michael Cera. The story of the group that invented Facebook has plenty of people talking and will open the New York Film Festival at Lincoln Center on September 24th. Plus, Aaron Sorkin, the brilliant mind behind The West Wing, is the film’s writer. Even though Facebook chose NOT to help market the movie, The Social Network is all over the movie world. You will get your chance to see it on October 1st.
And there you have it…our 10 most anticipated films of Fall.
Be sure to vote on what film you’re most excited to see on our current poll (left side of the website).

Ah, great list. Glad to see “Social Network” and “Black Swan” make the cut, those are the two I need to see the most.
Would you count “Tron Legacy” as part of the fall line-up?
News just in…Charlie Sheen has smashed up yet another luxury suite I saw today. He’s his own worst enemy. I wonder why he surrounds himself with idiots that dont really love him?
Until we hear otherwise, we will just assume he is doing those things
Such a useful site, I like it very much, thank you
