Did you know that, prior to directing the 2010 Helen Mirren starrer THE TEMPEST, Julie Taymor directed a NYC stage version of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest in 1986?

Taymor, famous for directing The Lion King and more recently Spider-Man: The Musical on Broadway, also directed ACROSS THE UNIVERSE in 2007.  She collaborated with her long-time romantic partner, composer Elliot Goldenthal, on all of these projects.  Goldenthal won the Oscar for Best Music, Original Score in 2002 for the Eva Perrone biopic FRIDA.

Taymor and Goldenthal are quite the powerhouse couple…
