Cowboys and Aliens Featurette Hits the Web

A new Cowboys and Aliens featurette has been released, containing interviews not only with Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Elf), the film’s director, but also with two of the film’s producers: oh you know, just the little known Steven Spielberg and Ron Howard.

Cowboys and Aliens marks director Jon Faveau’s 11th film to date, and if the trailer is any indication, it looks to be his most exciting yet. The movie takes place in the traditional West filled with classical Western figures and images such as cowboys, saloons, B-girls, and awesome, awesome guns; and as the name suggests, fun guns and bar fights are not the only thing that will draw you to the theater this summer, because along with this classical and poignant image of the West, Favreau has also inserted an impending threat and eventual war with aliens.

There you have it, all that you needed to know comes from the three word title: Cowboys and Aliens. But this is perhaps the most important three word title in movie history as it promises to intelligently combine two epic movie genres, ripe with larger-than-life figures and an intergalactic war. Is there anything more you could ask for from a Summer blockbuster? Well, how about a cast as filled with huge stars–Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell and Paul Dano. And if that isn’t enough to peak your interest, perhaps I should reiterate– COWBOYS AND ALIENS! Together at last!

In addition to portraying the full marketability (and awesomeness) of the film, the featurette also contains some large promises, such as Ron Howard’s claim that the film is “the coolest version of  the West meeting some badass aliens,” and Favreau’s comparison between Harrison Ford and John Wayne. Hopefully, the movie lives up to its hype. But hey, even if it doesn’t, watching cowboys and aliens duke it out for two hours could never be a complete waste of time!

Cowboys and Aliens is coming out July 29, 2011. Watch the featurette below:

  1. I loved him in the new Bond movies. He brought a certain toughness to Bond that the other versions couldn’t accomplish.
