Impressive Poster for The Hunger Games

Over the last two weeks or so, I’ve had some time. Naturally, I thought I should read a good book. After many—some almost violent—recommendations, I decided to go for it and picked up The Hunger Games. What a good decision on my (everyone else’s) part! You should read these books.

What perfect timing it was too. The new poster for the screen adaptation was just released online. But, no, it is not your typical poster. Regular? Boring? Dull? Nay. Nay. And nay. Not for The Hunger Games. I don’t think so.

For the virtual poster, a black screen ignites to reveal a mockingjay. Those who have read the books know what it represents, but, for those who don’t, it’s the pin Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) wears in the book/film. It is an important symbol nonetheless as each book of the trilogy features it smack dab on the cover.

The aesthetic of the poster is beautiful as the pin continues to burn well into your screen time. Behind it, the cackling of the fire. This is an allusion to another aspect of the story that, while I will not reveal here, should prove to be one of the most beautiful parts of the film. Above it the words MAY THE ODDS BE HEAVILY IN YOUR FAVOR are sprawled. This is a popular phrase in the book with comical, serious, and horrifying connotations.

I have to say (including a very large bias) this is a remarkable poster. It’s not showy for the sake of being showy. All aspects of the poster serve a purpose in The Hunger Games universe. My only complaint about the poster is the date: March 23, 2012. I realize this has nothing to do with the actual poster, but I would appreciate it if the movie would get here faster. I mean, c’mon, some of us are waiting…

Here is the official website for the movie as well. Hopefully we’ll see some more great things here in the coming months.

  1. Great post! Thanks for sharing! I’ll try to keep up with you.

  2. Can I simply say what a relief to find someone who truly knows what theyre talking about on the internet. You definitely know methods to deliver a problem to light and make it important. Extra people must read this and perceive this side of the story. I cant believe youre not more in style because you undoubtedly have the gift.

  3. Mockingjay was a brilliant conclusion to the trilogy. I can only compare it to “Ender’s Game” – and that is extremely high praise, indeed.

When I first closed the book last night, I felt shattered, empty, and drained. This book is my favorite of the series, hands-down.
