A Drive Sequel In The Works!

There are few things in this life that get me really excited. Ever since finding out the truth behind Santa Claus when I was 8, eliciting great excitement from me has proven a tough feat. Don’t get me wrong, I find myself relatively excited all the time, but I’m talking about can’t-control-myself, the-anticipation-is-killing-me type of excitement. This summer, I’m lucky to find that type of excitement culminating around the release of this week’s Prometheus. And now, as The Playlist, has confirmed for me, I will luckily have another great excitement nugget looming in the near future.

What is this news that can possibly create so much budding anticipation in a slightly cynical person? Well, that a Drive sequel is in the works! Praise all that is good in this world!

That’s right, last year’s surprisingly big hit that starred Ryan Gosling as getaway driver turns criminal avenger is going to have a sequel. James Sallis, who wrote the book the first movie was based on, has just released a follow-up book, Driven. And Sallis has somewhat illusively declared that Driven is indeed “in the movie pipeline.” What does that mean exactly? I’m not really sure other than knowing that a sequel will probably be coming at us in the distant future. All the other stuff aside, what’s important here is a Drive sequel!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! There’s no word yet as to whether or not Gosling will reprise his role as the most beloved (and not to mention best-looking) vigilante criminal of this century, or if Nicolas Winding Refn is even interested in directing the sequel (please let both those details be answered in the affirmative!), but all that matters right now is that a Drive sequel is (hopefully!) being made.

Here’s hoping that the sequel is just as good as the original, but judging by the level of craft that went into the first, I think we have a good chance at seeing something just as good.

And the excitement begins…now!
