Hocus Pocus 2 !?

If you were a kid in the 90′s (as I was), then you most definitely have seen – or at least heard of – the 1993 family-horror Disney film ‘Hocus Pocus.’ Starring Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker, it has become a staple for many during the Halloween season. ‘Hocus Pocus’ is about three sister witches who after 300 years are resurrected in Salem Massachusetts on Halloween night, and it us up to two teenagers, a young girl, and an immortal cat to put an end to the witches reign of terror once and for all.

When first released in theaters it wasn’t a smash hit but soon after found  a strong cult following. For me, it’s one of my absolute favorite movies to watch around Halloween. It provides me with such nostalgic memories of my childhood and compared to all of the monotonous horror films released around October it stands out because it goes for fun instead of scary. So it should be no surprise that I was absolutely giddy with excitement when Moviehole broke the news that Disney is developing a sequel!

Apparently the sequel will be titled ‘Hocus Pocus 2: Rise of the Elderwitch.’ The film is still in very early stages of development so there isn’t much more information except that we can expect to see it around Halloween time of next year. I think it’s pretty safe to assume that the original trio of sister witches won’t be making a return. Although, Bette Midler did once say it was her favorite film role ever. Maybe there will be some cameos thrown in for good fun.

Either way, original cast or not I am stoked for this. While I love a good fright film on Halloween, sometimes it’s also great to watch a film that reminds you about the fun of Halloween as a child. Stay tuned for more info on the sequel!

Do you think this is a good idea Banters? Have you seen the original film?

  1. I loved Hocus Pocus, and still do. Although I don’t think that a sequel is necessary, I will still give it a chance if there is indeed one. I just hope that without Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimy it can still be a great family movie like the original. While we wait for news on the sequel, I am just going to watch the original. Actually, one of my DISH coworkers brought up the movie a few days ago, and I added it to my Blockbuster @Home queue since Halloween is around the corner and it’s a perfect movie for the time. Since it’s mailed to me, it’ll be nice being able to go out shopping for candy and looking at costumes for the kids, without having to worry about finding it somewhere. Should there be a sequel, I will definitely take a look at it!

Hocus Pocus has been one of my favorite movies for years it’s still as entertaining as it was when it came to theatres back in 1993. A sequel to the film would be a great idea, there are rumors saying that the original cast might not reprise their roles. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker & Kathy Najimy were hysterical as the wicked Sanderson sisters brought back to life after 300 years.

Should a sequel ever be made it would be interesting to see what life’s been like for the characters of Max Dennison, his sister Dani & Allison since the events of halloween night 20 years ago. That’s just my opinion if a new cast is brought in I’m sure that the movie could be as hilarious as it’s predecessor.
