Despite early rumors that Joss Whedon was hesitant to return as writer and director for the sequel to The Avengers we now have official confirmation courtesy of The Wrap that the Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum will be back for round 2! This is fantastic news for anyone that was a fan of The Avengers, Whedon did an incredible job with an immeasurable amount of pressure. Packed with tons of A-listers and special effects he still managed to keep some heart and humor in the film, kudos. And seeing how the film was not only praised by critics but grossed close to $1.5 billion dollars worldwide, it’s no surprise Disney would want him back.

While there is no word yet on when this film is set to release we won’t have to wait too long to see more of our favorite Avengers heroes on the big screen again. In the next 2 years audiences can look forward to seeing Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America all in sequels (or three-quels) to their solo films. Whedon is also reportedly developing a Marvel-based television series for ABC (Disney’s affiliated network).

While ‘The Avengers’ wasn’t my favorite superhero flick of 2012 (have to go with The Dark Knight Rises on that one) it was still a wonderful film that did not disappoint at all. Can’t wait for round 2!
