Sinister Expected to be Absolutely Terrifying

It’s hard to keep track of horror movies this year. With the Halloween season coming up it seems like every weekend a new ghost or haunted house film is hitting theaters. What’s worse, all of them are apparently terrible. Now this is not from personal experience, I love the horror genre but lately I have been skipping out on them, and it looks like I have been making the right move. According to critic site Rotten Tomatoes, ‘The Possession’ has a meager 35% rating and ‘The Apparition’ has a devastating 2%! So is there no hope for horror these days? Not so fast!
On October 5th get ready to have your pants scared off you! Scott Derrickson’s ‘Sinister’ stars Ethan Hawke and tells the story of a true-crime novelist who uses found footage to help him realize how and why a family was murdered in his new home, though his discoveries put his entire family in the path of a supernatural entity. Now I know that doesn’t sound too original, but trust me, ‘Sinister’ will be frightening audiences everywhere. Don’t believe me? Check out some of the early reviews from its premiere at SXSW this year:
“The scares are not just intense but unyielding in this compelling horror yarn.”
- Peter Debruge, Variety
“This is efficient, intelligent horror that stays with you.”
- Shaun Munro, What Culture
‘Your pants. Do you like having them scared off you? Then you and your pants will enjoy Sinister.”
- Eric D. Snider, Film.com
“Horror fans will love the way it delivers on the genre with some inventive artistic flourish.”
- Fred Topel, CraveOnline
“A hair-raising descent into terror that evokes the spirit of horror classics like Changeling or The Amityville Horror.”
- John Gholson, Movies.com
“A bump-in-the-night haunted house tale that brings something new (and creepy) to the table.”
- Scott Weinberg, FEARnet
And the list goes on from there! While it is still early, the reviews for this film are glowing. Not that I trust critics wholeheartedly, but when I watched the trailer for this film I completely understand what is so “sinister” about this film. Check it out for yourself and see what you think:
So don’t let the recent dreadful horror movies turn you off of scary movies just yet, there seems to be hope in the very near future!
