Raise your hand if you’d watch Justin Timberlake in anything?

If you raised you’re hand for the first question, John himself is right there with you naming Timberlake as the number one person he’d like to see in his biographical film. If you raised your hand for number two, you’re a liar. Where were you for In Time?

Again, yes, John has got a sweet tooth himself for Justin to play him. There is no final script yet and John’s not necessarily ready to look into casting until everything else is where he wants it. Most likely that place is colorful and strange and beautiful, much like his music. Apparently it’s super visual, and he wants it to be sing-a-long-esque. But, you know, more artsy and also successful and, of course, a greatest hits package for everyone of all ages. Okay.

The real winner here is that Timberlake has already played John! Winner winner winner. Jackpot! Watch that here. You’ll enjoy it. And it’s a great song. Which of course is the whole draw to this thing.

Elton’s John music, regardless of how crazy his antics—ridiculous glasses, going bankrupt—has always been universal. At least for as long as I’ve been on this planet (which is still definitely shorter than John’s music.)

This would be great casting, but seems as though Timberlake may pass solely for the reason everyone else thinks it could work: been there, done that. As we all know, he’s focusing on something he hasn’t perfected quite like music. Right, acting? Right. So maybe this is a natural hybrid of sorts for him to make the world love him again. Oh, wait a minute, we all do anyway. Even if it’s in Bad Teacher. We’re crazy.

So, when the trailer for Emmerich’s new movie, Anonymous, comes out and it is not about aliens, the world ending or crust displacement theory, I get a little thrown off, a little worried, and a little skeptical. The skepticism continues as I watch the entire trailer, and realize that Emmerich has created a period thriller/drama, about, wait for it, Shakespeare. Yes, you heard me correctly: the Shakespeare. William Shakespeare, the man.

[I'll wait now so that you might pick your jaw up from the floor]. So, yes, were where we? Oh that’s right, Shakespeare. And this isn’t just any Shakespeare movie. No, instead this is a Shakespeare conspiracy movie (oh, well at least there’s a little bit of Emmerich coming out I see!).

Think less Shakespeare in Love and more of a who-done-it scenario with Shakespeare at the center,with Anonymous quite possibly alleging that the famed writer did not, in fact, right all of his own work and credits Edward De Vere, Earl of Oxford with partial authorship of Shakespeare’s plays. Throw in some canon explosions (uh duh, I mean, could Emmerich really resist?), sexual tension, dark lighting, and suspicious glances and you got yourself a more periodized, visibly darker version of Emmerich’s last attempt at seriousness, The Patriot.

Is it worth it to watch the trailer? Why yes it is, it’s Roland Emmerich, after all, and no matter how you feel about the (um, amazing) director, you can’t deny that he can sure put together a cast. And this one is no different, what with the film staring Edward Hogg, Vanessa Redgrave, Rhys Iffans, David Thewlis, Joely Richardson and Rafe Spall.

But does it actually look worthwhile to see? Well, it’s Roland Emmerich after all, and I won’t let him down now, not after how good he’s been to me (ahem, Independence Day and 2012). But, I will be watching in the hopes that an alien accidentally (or not) blows up Shakespeare.

Taking place in the wild West, after aliens threaten to demolish the human race in their quest for gold (a treasured commodity everywhere, it seems), cowboys and Native Americans must fight back in order to ensure the survival of people everywhere. Sounds awesome right? Well, it sounds especially awesome when you throw in mega-stars, Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig, into the mix. So you see, there isn’t much to say about Cowboys and Aliens, except to maybe confirm that it is in fact awesome. Epically awesome even.

How epically awesome? Well, come on! It’s cowboys AND aliens, in one movie, together at last! This is the pairing we didn’t even know we wanted brought to life. And yes, it did live up to my expectations.

Let’s be clear. This isn’t a great movie in the sense that it is in any way an Oscar contender. This may not even be considered a good movie by many critics. But this is an epic movie, on the same level of epic as Roland Emmerich’s 2012, The Day After Tomorrow, and maybe, just maybe, Independence Day (way to go, Emmerich, you’re really on a roll).

Like the three aforementioned Emmerich films, Cowboys and Aliens has everything that makes a movie epic– big stars, big explosions and, perhaps most importantly, big chemistry between said stars. While it has been made very clear that both Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig can hold their own on screen, some of the best scenes contained the two bickering and figuring out how to work together.

And if the chemistry fails to interest you, believe me, the action won’t. Like any good summer blockbuster, Cowboys and Aliens is definitely considered an action film. And what’s more? This movie combines the type of action you see in Westerns with the kind you see in alien films– fun rifles and shotguns and futuristic machinery: innovative Americana at its best!

So does Cowboys and Aliens live up to its hype (at least the hype that I placed on the film)? Why yes, it does. A perfectly epic summer blockbuster! SEE IT.

Apparently, Bigelow and Boal have been working on the project for a while and wanted to start filming early this summer, but when Osama Bin Laden’s death –especially, how the Navy Seal Team 6 went about it–became headline news, the writer/director team decided to incorporate that into the script.

And what’s more? The as-of-yet untitled film has just been picked up by Columbia Pictures, ensuring the movie a ton of publicity (think The Social Network and 2012).

Let’s be real, as soon as the whole Osama Bin Laden finding and killing thing happened, we all knew it was only a matter of time before someone made a movie out of it. I just didn’t realize it would be THIS soon.

Nevertheless, if someone was going to do it, thank God Bigelow and Boal got to it first. If we learned anything from The Hurt Locker, it was that Bigelow and Boal, when teamed up, can make a typical action film anything but. Here’s hoping that this duo brings something similar to this film.

Because of the new developments, Bigelow aims to start shooting at the end of the summer and is looking for a late 2012 release date.

Now, if only she would make a movie about the failed Rapture,  because I’d definitely watch that.

Hey everybody. Last night I saw the new Roland Emmerich-helmed film 2012. Here’s my review:

It’s a shame that a movie that for one hour completely caught me off guard and had me actually enjoying its CG destruction could have such a slow second half. The next two hours (that’s right; it’s nearly three hours, folks) drag the same thing out for what seems like forever.

John Cusack and Amanda Peet take turns in screaming at ocean waves, in sub-par performances. Woody Harrelson, who I had no idea was starring in 2012 until the moment his scruffy bearded persona graced the screen, is hilarious, however, as a Yellowstone National Park-based radio show host who constantly preaches that “the end is nigh!” Easily the best character in 2012, and one who didn’t have nearly enough screen time.

Danny Glover is a decent Mr. President, but nothing feels very valuable in 2012. If you enjoy destruction and random silent bright scenes (you’ll see what I mean if you see the movie), then 2012 is the movie for you. For everyone else, stick the $9 back in your pocket.

The movie 2012 Quel maledetto treno blindato film Hot Fuzz movie is coming out soon and this is supposed to be the big blockbuster of the season.  There are a lot of superstitions regarding this date 2012, non scientific, all a lot of crap, but even though there have been talks about this year all throughout history.  The date is supposed to be the end of the world as we know it with cataclysmic events happening based off of amateur sayings and ancient mythology.

Of course no good myth can be complete without its typical over cheesy end of the world Hollywood movie with poor script and mediocre over acting from guys with pretty decent names who are over the hill and just want a pay check.  Does The Day After Tomorrow ring a bell Mr. Dennis Quad?  This is  cheap ploy of Hollywood to of course make money off some myth that will get a couple of dorks reaching for their inhalers after they watch one half hour show about it on the history channel.

This movie looks terrible.  This is where me and fellow Banterer Matt differ because based off the trailer he cannot wait for this movie.  I personally think this is just another example of Hollywood utilizing too much CGI and actor names to try to bring in box office cash.  It probably will do decent opening weekend but will be a bust compared to what it cost to make and advertise.  2013 anyone?  At least this movie can’t have a sequel to it although knowing Hollywood they will figure out somehow how to create an illusion of part of the myth alive to string out more cash from us in a few years.  And as terrible as it may probably be I will see it, why not.

I’m talking like HOLT SH*T INSANITY. This trailer makes Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, Either Transformers, and any Terminator look like a trip down the “It’s A Small World After All” ride at Disney.  If you have not seen it, see below. You need to see how insane this looks.
