‘A Clockwork Orange’ 40th Anniversary: Blu-Ray Special

It’s hard to believe it was 40 years ago that the late Stanley Kubrick’s classic film “A Clockwork Orange” hit theatres and took the cinematic world by storm. Nominated for 4 Oscars (Best Director, Best Film Editing, Best Screenplay & Best Picture), “Clockwork” was released in 1971 and has never been forgotten for being brilliant yet equally disturbing. For those of you not familiar with the film here’s a quick synopsis:

In future Britain, after a number of brutal rapes and murders, charismatic delinquent Alex DeLarge is jailed and volunteers for an experimental aversion therapy developed by the government in an effort to solve society’s crime problem… but not all goes to plan.

Those who have not seen “A Clockwork Orange” yet, you are in luck. On May 31^st of this year Warner Homer Video is releasing a special 40^th Anniversary 2-disc Edition on Blu-ray. Here are all of the special features below. Enjoy!

- Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures (Directed by Jan Harlan, the brother of Kubrick’s widow, Christiane): Kubrick’s career comes into sharp focus in this compelling documentary narrated by Tom Cruise. Fascinating footage glimpses Kubrick in his early years, at work on film sets and at home, augmented by candid commentary from collaborators, colleagues and family.
- Lucky Malcolm! Documentary: about the life and career of actor Malcolm McDowell produced and directed by Jan Harlan and edited by Katia de Vidas.

Go figure, Seth Rogen in yet another movie, seems he is in a new movie playing the same role

every other month. He plays the same typical loveable loser you would never actually want to be friends with or bring home to the parents, but he is funny with his improv lines. Justin Long has the best role in the movie although short, but plays it with a bang (pun intended if you have seen the movie).

Elizabeth Banks does a good job in her usual role, she has made a nice run in these type of comedies. The movie was very funny the first time I saw it, but did not have the same repeat value I thought it may have.

Do you like raunchy coming of age movies? Do you like road trips that end up having crazy events happening in them that are unexpected? Then go rent American Pie and Road Trip.

This movie goes out of its way to be “that guy” and tries way to hard to be something it’s not. It tries to be this cult comedy of this raunchy coming of age movie where a dorky kid tries to lose his virginity. Seen it done tons of times before, and in a much funnier manner. This is below all the American Pie franchise movies, and I’m not even referring to the ones that were in theaters, I mean the straight to DVD movies.

The new era of Netflix

Twilight Zone: The Movie film How many people out there in the past say 6 months have signed up for Netflix? In that same period, how many people either stopped going to Blockbuster or have cut back on buying DVD’s? I am in both of those groups. Over the past 6 months, Netflix has completely taken over the movie renting industry. Let’s just look at this, On Dec 1 Netflix stock price was just above 22. Now its at over 37.5, an increase of over 68%. In that same time period, Blockbuster issued rumors of bankruptcy, and the market has completely tanked.

Melody trailer Netflix itself may have revoluntionized movie rentals. For $7 a month you can have 2 movies come straight to your mailbox. For just a couple more dollars than that, you can have up 3 or even unlimited monthly rentals. In times like these, people are cutting as much frivolous spending as possible but still need to be amused. 2 Movie tickets, popcorn, soda and candy can run you about $40 depending on where you live. New release DVD’s can run you about $15. So if we take an additional look, people still need entertainment but just cheaper forms of it. That is where Netflix comes in.

Pitch Black dvd The Perverts Guide to Cinema psp

Netflix has been great to me thus far for me. I rented Rescue Dawn a couple months back. My job requires me to be here long hours so I don’t get a lot of free time at the moment. That movie has been sitting on my Blu Ray for about 2 months now. No late charges, no complaints, no problems. I’ll get around to the movie but the point is Netflix doesn’t have late fees or bother their customers. In fact, I watched half the movie and must say its pretty good. When I finish it, I’ll write a review

And, just over the last couple weeks there has been a new feature added to Netflix that you can streamline movies right off the internet to your Television. You do need a Samsung Blu Ray (hooked up to the internet). Soon this will be the norm. The new era of Netflix is upon us.
