Potter part 7, well Potter part 6.5, has sent a teaser trailer to the web. If you don’t already know, the final installment in the Potter series will be broken up into 2 movies. From a business stand point, this is a brilliant idea. Why cash in once, when you can cash in twice? For us, it just means it will cost $25 instead of $12.50 to see how the full 7th book gets adapted to film.

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” is the one book that takes place more time away from Hogwarts than actually at Hogwarts. The teaser shows us a little bit of the terrific trio (Harry, Ron, and Hermione) and their expedition away from school.  We see a lot of London, a bit of a forest, and scenes from strange houses. I hope they do the end of the series justice because they sort of dropped the ball with the most recent Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, which came out this past Summer.

Check out the teaser below.

So, I was lucky enough to catch a sneak preview of the film on Tuesday evening, a couple hours before it premiered world wide at midnight.  Overall, Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince was a good movie.  I really wanted to say this movie was a great movie, but it wasn’t.  It was good; enjoyable, fun, great special effects and lots of cool scenes.

The film runs about 2.5 hours and flew by pretty quickly.  I read the books, so I do not want to analyze the book to film adaption.  I think they should be viewed separately.  There are a lot of side plots that are captured in the books, that are just not essential to telling the main story here.   For film, there is really only so much time to tell the main story, and even that has to be condensed. The main plot is captured fairly well, just missing some back story.

David Yates, the director of the movie, did a really good job in taking this franchise to a more mature level.  As the years go by at Hogwarts, the kids are growing up, and we literally are watching them grow up.  So Yates had a task to evolve the film to a higher level of maturity while keeping its toddler base. I think he succeeds here. Both adults and kids will enjoy the film. More gritty, more violent, more teenage boy/girl interaction, and more emotionally realistic scenes.

The only thing this movie was missing was a little of explanation to plot developments.  As a viewer, I think the film missed out on telling us what was going on as the plot continued to unfold.

Also, the climax of the film is just good. If you read the book you know what I mean.  It could have been better.  I wanted to see more yelling, screaming, and suspenseful music. Especially with how the movie concluded in its final minutes.

It seems that week after week another big movie comes out.  Wolverine, Star Trek, UP, The Hangover, Transformers, and Bruno. However, now the single biggest film of the Summer, maybe the year opens up worldwide.  Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince premieres at 12:01 on Tuesday night (Wednesday morning), and plenty of serious fans will be waiting on lines for hours to make sure they get a decent seat.  This is the sixth installment of the Harry Potter franchise, and will no question be the best of the films to date.

The story is definitely fit for film.  David Yates, the director of the 5th movie, also directed this one. He did a great job adapting the 5th book (Order of the Phoenix) to film.  I really thought that the 5th book was a bit weak compared to the others, yet somehow Yates succeeded in creating an extremely entertaining film.  He was able to trim the fat well, getting rid of really the unnecessary parts of the book that weren’t fit to tell the main story. Sure, the film goer misses out on some parts of the book, but they get the overall picture. I’m not going to sit here and compare the books versus the movies, as both are good, but if you like the movies, definitely go check out the books.  Also, it’s a bit difficult to convert 700 pages of book to something around 2.5 hours of movie.  Of all the books, the story in this installment is definitely the most easily adaptable to film.  Be prepared for some major developments as we get closer to Harry and Voldemort’s past and connection.

The Banter review of the film will be on the site Tuesday night at around 11pm, prior to the midnight showing. Tune into the site for our thoughts. We will not give any spoilers.
