Independent filmmaker Bill Plympton’s newest project, Idiots and Angels, will be released at IFC Center (New York) and Laemmle Sunset 5 (Los Angeles) starting October 6^th. Plympton, who has also animated popular shorts like Your Face (nominated for an Academy Award) and Guard Dog, built the film around the basic idea of an angel who does not want his wings. The animated feature is a dark comedy where Angel (yes, that’s his name, ironically) not only fails all attempts to rid himself of the wings, but cannot will them to succumb to any of his selfish plans. I won’t say anymore about the plot, but you should all check the film out for its stylistic choices too.

Plympton describes the style as Eastern European, or, my favorite analogy, something David Lynch would make if he ever animated a film. Also, the film has no dialogue, just music playing throughout. I personally think those are great choices for a film surrounding moral struggles, especially because music plays such a huge role in determining a film’s tone. Music is a language of its own that invokes emotion. Without any dialogue to process, you’ll be left to experience the film based on emotion, not logic. We all secretly wish we could play a soundtrack to our lives (you know you play Cobrastyle in your head after you’ve done something bad ass or Sound of Silence when you’re feeling sorry for yourself—hopefully you’ve never resorted to that one, it’s just an example), so just imagine what the film will be like.

How does this short sound to you?

In 1999 an underground small time movie about Boston Irish vigilantes was released and slowly picked up steam to become a cult classic among college students across the country.  The movie was Boondock Saints, and was a staple to every dorm room along with the poster for many students.  The bloody unique movie became a hit and resonated with students especially the chilling monologue at the end of the movie.

For years there have always been rumors about a sequel being developed to the cult hit that fans were eagerly awaiting.  A website was developed and rumors were treading fast about the proposed sequel.  Well now the time has come and it is finally here.  Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day will be releasing this fall a full decade after the original came out.

I’m happy thee movie is finally coming out but wish it did earlier.  Still considered a cult classic, I’m not sure it will have the same appeal it once had.  I remember reading about this years ago and the fact that it took so long makes me think there were issues with the script, story, and production.  Never a good sign to delay a sequel so long and even though the trailer looks pretty cool it’s more of a way for an independent distributor to make easy money off a brand, the same way big studios are doing with remakes and all these sequels.

this week brings us a brand new released movie that is sure to grab some people’s attention within the year.  One Hour Fantasy Girl, a film about a 20 yr old newly recruited “fantasy” girl named Becky who is trying to save up enough money so she can one day invest in real estate to lead her out of the life she is currently living.

Becky possesses this dark and strange innocence about her in a way that takes over the viewer to make them feel for her.  Being on her own since a teenager and the product of a bad childhood with an alcoholic mother, drives her to her new chosen job as the only way she feels she can earn the money to get to where she wants to be.

Now a “fantasy” girl is different, something I never heard of before.  Basically they perform any fantasy and twisted fetish you may have, but no nudity or touching.  Almost like a freaky stripper.  This was new to me and  I spoke with John Paul Rice, one of the producers about how they did research for the story and character.

Lava Storm movie download Speaking with John Paul he spoke about how when performing research for the movie he came across girls who performed this type of act most times through craigslist.org.  He hired a few to interview and collect their stories and learn through their experiences to help build the character of Becky and the situations that you see take place in the movie.  I found that extremely interesting and curious how these girls could choose other adult entertainment jobs, some more professional and making more money, but stick to this line for whatever their reasons.

The slow pace movie grabs you in and you become part of this world, wanting Becky to escape, but full well knowing the reality is she may never see the light at the end of the tunnel.
