Anyone remember a little film called ‘Avatar’? Nothing too special, only the highest grossing film ever and helmed by legendary filmmaker James Cameron. Even if you didn’t love the movie (I enjoyed it but definitely think it could’ve been more original with its plot), you definitely can appreciate the effects and the magical world that Cameron created. So it should come as no surprise that Disney has struck a deal to bring ‘Avatar’ into theme parks.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2013 and although there are no details on what exactly the ride will feature, it is set to be built inside the Animal Kingdom section of Disney World in the Orlando Park.

James Cameron spoke about the new ride saying, “Through this incredible partnership with Disney, we’ll be able to bring Pandora to life like never before. With two new ‘Avatar’ films currently in development, we’ll have even more locations, characters and stories to explore. I’m chomping [sic] at the bit to start work with Disney’s legendary Imagineers to bring our ‘Avatar’ universe to life. Our goal is to go beyond current boundaries of technical innovation and experiential storytelling, and give park goers the chance to see, hear, and touch the world of ‘Avatar’ with an unprecedented sense of reality.”

I imagine part of the inspiration came from the Harry Potter World in Universal Orlando. I know plenty of people who have visited that attraction and say it is truly magical, no pun intended of course. Hopefully, this one can match that!

I don’t know about you Banters but putting any personal feelings about ‘Avatar’ the film aside this attraction sounds like an amazing spectacle!

Who thinks with construction for the ride beginning in 2013 the debut will most definitely coincide with ‘Avatar 2’ in theaters December of 2014?

My love for Star Wars is something I will never hide. The first three even though they were, well…not-so-good, will not hinder my love. This is not new news by any means, but George Lucas and producer Rick McCallum have dropped some information in regards to, wait for it, the STAR WARS T.V. SERIES!!!!

The only sad part about this is that it won’t happen for three to four years. That’s a long time, Lucas, get this thing out of the gate. The problem is money. McCallum says it is unrealistic to make this show on a television budget. Boo hoo. In some sense, I can see why not. Star Wars isn’t really known for its small budget. All those effects cost the big bucks. He and Lucas don’t want to put up their own money to get this done immediately. They’re poor, after all. Apparently four years will change this (which actually makes sense).

It’s like the tale of young James Cameron. He wanted to make his little movie roughly a bajillion years ago, but the technology wasn’t out there. So he waited and waited and waited, and finally he got to make it with all the pretty colors and cool aliens he wanted. His movie was so successful all across the land that he got his second billion-dollar movie. Awww. The end.

They’re thinking of shooting this in the Czech Republic because apparently they like it there. Not only that but they have “50 hours of third-draft scripts” which seems like a lot to have YEARS before actually making anything. But no one involved has ever been accused of rushing.

Hopefully, this Star Wars show will also be very good-looking and very successful. I don’t know if the fans can take something as disappointing as Attack of the Clones. The animated Clone Wars can only go so far in the Star Wars universe. A live action television show seems more fitting; especially if it is a quality live action television show, where the many special effects add to the story. This coming year, we’ll see a lot of big budgeted, high concept television. So, I’m excited about this. Much more excited than for another Indian Jones sequel with aliens. Right?

As most of you know, James Cameron is putting together two sequels to follow his 2009 mega hit Avatar. It’s only the highest grossing movie of all time, but no big deal.

According to sources, Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment Production Company signed a deal to lease the 115,000-square-feet of soundstage and production office space on the 22-acre MBS Media Campus. The campus is located in Southern California. Cameron is supposedly attracted to the campus’s green features, which include a water conservation program, eco-friendly paints and cleaning products, sustainable café and craft services practices. Check the article from GreenLaunches.com for more information.

The true amazing thing of this entire deal is that Cameron is going into his own (deep) pockets to have solar panels installed to help power the set. Cameron also plans to donate some of the film’s profits to charity.

The green set is something new to Hollywood. Either that or I just haven’t heard of it. This is a great thing for Hollywood, especially as its most influential people continue to advocate for environmentally friendly programs. If this grows to become more popular, we could see a transition in how movies are shot and made. Perhaps this could even go further and demonstrate to other cities that alternative sources of energy are economical (and possible).

What do you think?

Well, it certainly doesn’t get any more relevant and current than this (except for if someone was making a movie about the Rapture). Kathryn Bigelow, the Oscar winning director behind The Hurt Locker (oh, and James Cameron’s hot ex-wife), is currently working on a project with Mark Boal (writer of The Hurt Locker) about the Navy Seal Team 6 and its search for Osama Bin Laden.

Apparently, Bigelow and Boal have been working on the project for a while and wanted to start filming early this summer, but when Osama Bin Laden’s death –especially, how the Navy Seal Team 6 went about it–became headline news, the writer/director team decided to incorporate that into the script.

And what’s more? The as-of-yet untitled film has just been picked up by Columbia Pictures, ensuring the movie a ton of publicity (think The Social Network and 2012).

Let’s be real, as soon as the whole Osama Bin Laden finding and killing thing happened, we all knew it was only a matter of time before someone made a movie out of it. I just didn’t realize it would be THIS soon.

Nevertheless, if someone was going to do it, thank God Bigelow and Boal got to it first. If we learned anything from The Hurt Locker, it was that Bigelow and Boal, when teamed up, can make a typical action film anything but. Here’s hoping that this duo brings something similar to this film.

Because of the new developments, Bigelow aims to start shooting at the end of the summer and is looking for a late 2012 release date.

Now, if only she would make a movie about the failed Rapture, because I’d definitely watch that.

The release date for one of Blue Sky’s newest films, Rio, is quickly approaching (April 15th). According to Wikipedia, the film’s synopsis is as follows:

“Blu is a rare species of blue macaw resident at a bookstore in Moose Lake, Minnesota, who is the last of his kind. When scientists learn that another macaw was spotted in South America and that the macaw, Jewel is female, they take him out of Minnesota and send him to Rio de Janeiro to meet her. While there, he learns to confront his fear of flying in order to win her heart. Along the way, they get kidnapped by poachers to sell them to get a fortune. After they escape, they try to avoid the thieves and their pet cockatoo Nigel with help from Rafael, a wise Toucan; Luiz, a chainsaw ‘professional’ bulldog; Linda, Blu’s owner; Fao, a barn owl; Pedro, a redhead bird; and Nico, a small yellow canary.”

In 2010, Pixar announced the cancellation of one of their projects, Newt. That film’s synopsis was something like this:

“What happens when the last remaining male and female blue-footed newts on the planet are forced together by science to save the species, and they can’t stand each other? Newt and Brooke embark on a perilous, unpredictable adventure and discover that finding a mate never goes as planned, even when you only have one choice. Love, it turns out, is not a science.”

Sound strangely similar?

The plot of James Cameron’s Avatar, a huge success, was freakishly similar to that of the Disney feature, Pocahontas, which was sadly not much of a success. Also not much of a success was Alpha and Omega, another film with a plot similar to Rio’s. But I think Rio has a really good chance of being a box office success. Maybe part of it will be due to amazing direction, good performances, a great script, and beautiful animation, OR maybe the studios saw what Cameron did and made an intelligent decision to follow in his footsteps in order to give their film an outstanding release. They decided to make the main characters blue! Yes, no matter how overused a story is or how much you take from other works, it will have a chance of being successful if your protagonists are blue. Gnomeo & Juliet made an attempt with the “blue-hatted” gnomes, but only one of those gnomes was a main character, so they didn’t fully apply the rule…Pixar decided to use blue-footed newts, but probably dropped the project because they knew that the newts were not blue enough, therefore it would not work out like Avatar.

Yes, part of this claim is my need to still release frustration over the fact that Avatar got away with being as similar as it was to Pocahontas, but I’m willing to bet that Rio will be quite a success, solely based on the fact that its main characters are blue (also, I really do not think it is a rip off of what would have been Newt). Even the main character’s name is Blu. You can hold me to it. When the movie comes out, if it bombs, I will hold my head down in shame.

If it is a new trend, I wonder how the new Smurfs movie will do…I swear everyone’s jumping on the blue-wagon this year—it’s the new 3D…

What do you guys think?

Sanctum, directed by Alister Grierson and produced by James Cameron, is inspired by a true story in which an underwater cave diving team gets trapped in the least accessible cave system in the world and must find a way out. The film is out in theaters starting today.

The good thing about this film was how beautiful the shots were. There were just some really gorgeous images of the inside of the cave. And the performances were pretty great actually, considering the material the actors were given to work with.

Unfortunately, this was not enough to outweigh the bad.

First of all, the first half of the movie just dragged on forever and was extremely boring. We didn’t care about any of the characters and most of it was of a boy yelling at his father, the leader of the diving team, telling him how much he hates him. Do we care that the father and son have this issue? No. Next was the dialogue, which was absolutely terrible. And the stuff that happened in the film called for certain reactions from the other characters that just turned out awkward. Not to mention the random lines that were meant to be funny but just did not have a place in the story at all.

Once things actually start to happen in the movie (way later), it can hold your attention and give you thrills here and there. But there’s no point because you won’t care enough about the characters for them to make it out alive. Although the relationship between the father and son was poorly introduced, it did start to develop beautifully throughout the remainder of the film, which I felt was something worth seeing, if anything.

Sadly, when it comes to the film as a whole, I’d say

SKIP IT

Hey everyone! Yesterday was the day we’ve been waiting for for 12 years: the release of James Cameron’s Avatar. I saw it last night in IMAX 3D, and here’s my review-

A brilliantly told sci-fi epic. James Cameron’s Avatar is a luxuriant masterpiece to be remembered for decades to come. Cameron creates another world entitled Pandora (which turns out not to be based on the iPhone radio app), and he has as much fun with it as he possibly can.

Sam Worthington isn’t too shabby, and Zoe Saldana is pretty great, but to be honest the acting doesn’t matter all that much. Cameron is clearly the star of his own groundbreaking 3D account, and he shines more than ever.

Emotionally-charged and somehow not up its own ass with “messages”, Avatar is history in the making. For all those who weren’t around for Star Wars or Terminator, the King of the World has something shiny wrapped under the tree for you this Christmas. And long live the King.

4.5 out of five stars.

This is a guest post Travis, you can check out more of his posts on his Travis Fantina Blog.

“Last night I had the privilege of attending one of a few extended preview’s in IMAX 3D for James Cameron’s upcoming film (his first in 12 years) “Avatar”.

Now I’m going to go into some detail about what I saw yesterday; before the preview began James Cameron came on screen to introduce it and state that all the footage was from the first half of the film so there were no major spoilers. However if you are one of those people who really freaks out about even the smallest of spoilers I recommend you do not read on.

I’ll start out by saying it was beautiful, which is not really what I expected. The trailer shows a few shots of the beauty found on the planet known as ‘Pandora’ however watching a few scenes from the 16 minute preview we were really able to get a taste of just how lush, rich and beautiful the landscape on this planet, which was created with computers from the ground up, really is.

The first scene was almost completely live action, I’m not sure if there was, CG at all. It was basically in introduction to the planet ‘Pandora’ a crusty, battle scared head of security informs a group of incoming marines that his job is to protect them from the hostile world outside the perimeter fence. He says that, at least for some of the marines he will unfortunately fail in his duties. This is when Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) rolls down the aisle in a wheel chair.

The computer animation is really top notch; there were moments in the jungles of Pandora where I found myself wondering if James Cameron had not just taken his revolutionary stereoscopic camera system into a real jungle.

The CG was amazing, however I felt it took some getting used to. In the second scene they showed the paraplegic vet Jake Sully is first taking on his na’vi body (This is where the title ‘Avatar’ comes from, basically his brain is transferred into the body of Pandora’s indigenous species), I was not too impressed. This may have been because I had never seen a picture of the Na’vi before so perhaps I was expecting something different. I felt the CG Na’vi mixed with the live action humans was just a tad fake looking however this initial feeling may pass after watching even more of the film (December 18th!).

The next scene was high adrenaline chase which began as Jake squares off against a strange creature indigenous to the jungles of Pandora, the creature is frightened away by an even larger and scarier beast which Jake runs from. Although the chase was impressive the two creatures struck me as kind of plastic looking, and my disappointment began to mount, until…

The Next Scene, Jake is rescued from a pack of scavenging beasts by a Na’vi woman my mind really began to think that all this CG was real! The best was yet to come.

The Pandora jungle by day, as I said, looks pretty much like a jungle here on Earth, however come night fall the Jungle plants are illuminated with a beautiful and mysterious phosphorescent glow. My expectations for this film were gone, it was something I had never imagined. I no longer wanted to see James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’, no, I wanted to take a space ship to Pandora and actually walk around in this beautiful jungle (despite the beasts which rip you to shreds and hostile native peoples).

Amazing Grace movie download Fired Up movie The final scene shows Jake along with some other members of the local Na’vi tribe trying to tame some kind of flying creature that resides high in the cliffs on the outskirts of the jungle. The Na’vi tells Jake that the beast will choose him, and he’ll know because it will try to kill him. Once again I found myself blown away during this action packed scene by how real the animation looked.

download Dog Soldiers movie

Abbott and Costello Meet the Keystone Kops psp

After the final scene, we were treated to about thirty seconds of epic battles, flying machines, military gunfire, explosions and all the makings of a great trailer. Today I watched the actual trailer for the first time thinking that it would be mostly a collection of clips from what we had seen in the preview. While there were certainly a lot of repeat clips, the trailer actually contained a lot of material not in the 16 minute preview.

“Avatar” looks amazing and well worth the wait, however as I said the whole experience takes a bit of getting used to, I worry that a 2 minute and 30 second trailer just won’t be enough to get people thirsty for more. Which is part of the reason I think Twentieth-Century Fox and James Cameron decided to have an event like “Avatar Day” to generate positive word of mouth.

“Avatar” hits theaters on December 18th and also stars Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Zoe Saldana, and Giovanni Ribisi

Young Adam dvd by now, you must live under a rock. It’s the long-awaited comeback of James Cameron, the director of the Oscar-winning Titanic. Nobody can really make out what this thing even revolves around; Cameron is keeping the movie under wraps. And a big bow. Like the Christmas present that was in your mom’s closet that you just weren’t able to reach. However, he released a few teaser stills that revealed damn near nothing and even launched an official website that once again showed nothing new. Later, he announced an event he called “Avatar Day”, a day when fanboys could flock to theaters to catch sixteen minutes (not fifteen, mind you, apparently acknowledging that extra minute is critical) of the movie in IMAX 3D. And to top it all off, the tickets were free. All you had to do was RSVP on AvatarMovie.com to ensure no confusion on August 17th. And so many people bought tickets that it crashed Fox’s servers.

The day before, August 20th, the official teaser trailer was released on Apple.com. I for one was impressed by the graphics. I thought that when the feature-length movie was released in December, it could be a visionary masterpiece. I guess that I was the only person who enjoyed the teaser since others called it an epic disappointment. Blog Critics says that the floating rocks scene “resemble(s) a scene from a Final Fantasy (video) game.” So fans were relying on the footage shown the next day to take their breath away and restore their faith in James Cameron. That footage opened to mixed reviews as well! John Young of EW.com said that compared to a homerun, the sixteen minutes was “more of a solid triple, but I honestly can’t say for sure.” A few weeks back, I talked about Avatar and how hype can completely kill a film. I wanted to write this article on this particular subject basically just to say “I told you so.” I enjoyed the teaser trailer a lot, and I forwarded it to my friends (who know absolutely nothing about Cameron’s latest) and they were all blown away too. So keep in mind from now until December 18th to only mildly expect the hype that Avatar holds. I had to look the release date up for the sci-fi on IMDb just now (the movie is up 1,100% in popularity this week) because I had forgotten. This will be huge, and I’m advising you to get ready.
