According to Screenrant.com and Rotten Tomatoes itself, the website Rotten Tomatoes is merging with Flixster.
According to Rotten Tomatoes “the combination of Flixster and Rotten Tomatoes aims to be the most comprehensive movie information source, both for users on our sites and on other platforms such as Facebook. To do that, we’ll be using a database of more than 250,000 movies, 2.3 billion user reviews, 500,000 critic reviews, more than 20,000 trailers and videos, Tomatometer and Flixster Scores, movie news and interviews, and showtimes and ticket information.” Click here for the complete article.
Screenrant.com mentions that the merger involves an undisclosed cash payment made by Flixster to IGN Entertainment, the owner of the review site Rotten Tomatoes. IGN is a division of News Corp, who’s parent company is Fox. Click here for the complete article according to Rotten Tomatoes.
When I think of the ultimate collaborate movie websites I think of IMDB and Rotten Romatoes. IMDB is more of the wikipedia of movies and Rotten Tomatoes is more of an accumulation of critic reviews. Although, IMDB does have a rating system of its own. Regardless, the joining of Flixster and Rotten Tomatoes does create a mega powerhouse of a film website; a website that IMDB could have some issue dealing with.
You guys might know Flixster from their constant online advertising for ranking your movies.
For reviews and databases content, I still prefer IMDB. The simplicity and extent of that site is second to none. However, it will be interesting to see how the new Flixster/Rotten Tomatoes company will impact IMDB.
Will this merger create the premiere movie website on the internet?
What do you think? What site do you use?
Keep Bantering.
