The Meaning Behind Some Characters Names

A smart movie does more than just present the story and characters to its audience. It makes you look deeper into the movie to explore all aspects that it has to offer. Not only that, it drives the viewer to learn something they didn’t know before, even forcing them to research more into certain aspects that may interest them.

Hidden messages and irony in names, places, and events can deepen a movie on an underlying plane that may not be noticeable at the time the movie is watched. After watching a movie and then finding out a fact or tidbit that you previous didn’t know, but explains a movie more in depth is always a breath of fresh air, and a reason to appreciate a movie more.

I recently just found out a cool fact about the name of one of the characters in Watchmen. I recently did a snap video movie review of the Watchmen

, but one fact that my friend Manny found out a few days after we saw the movie really intrigued me, and I want to share it with everyone who may not have known this previously.

Rorschach is one of the main characters in the movie and you learn about his abused past, and mother who is a whore, and being tortured by older boys. He has developed many psychological issues. He is shown throughout most of the movie wearing a mask which is in the pattern of an ink blot test. This alone means nothing more than just a mask if you don’t know the hidden meaning behind it.

Hermann Rorschach created the inkblot test in 1921

and the test was named after him because of it. The ink blot test is a method of psychological evaluation. The test is used to determine the personal characteristics and to judge a person’s emotional functioning.

I did not know this prior and thought the character was simply a name with no meaning behind it. But this was a great way to develop a character called Rorschach because of his complex emotional state and also to have him wear the mask of the exact test that Hermann Rorschach developed. Very cool on Allan Moore’s part, the writer of the Watchmen.

I always enjoy learning little facts after I see the movie, for me it really enhances the experience and overall movie. Did anyone know about this prior? Are there any other facts or metaphors in the movie I may have missed that someone else caught? All Dogs Go to Heaven psp

It’s a pretty cool little picture showing the comic characters of the Watchmen on top of the actors who portrayed them. Why is Thomas Jane in the picture for the Comedian instead of Jeffrey Dean Morgan? Looks like somebody made an oops big time here.

Finally at last, my review comes for this epic movie. And an epic movie it was indeed. I went into this movie with a different mentality from most movie goers because I read the excellent graphic novel. Snyder did a great job of adapting the novel to its truest form to keep fans happy. Because of this, he also may have alienated movie fans who were expecting a fast paced action comic book movie. That is not the case here and because of it, can leave some people a little bored and puzzled by the complex storyline in this epic alternate universe. If you have not seen the movie yet, I would recommend reading up on the story line and reading reviews so you can fully understand the type of movie you will be watching.

Angel and the Badman full movie If you have seen the movie, feel free to banter away. I am curious to know how everyone felt about this epic movie. Both fans of the graphic novel and those who have not read it.

Two and a half Watchmen

Not sick of all the Watchmen talk just quite yet? Here is a funny clip I found from the movie blog Not Just Movies hotel rwanda divx movie online that takes the Watchmen and combines it with the show Two and a Half Men for a funny trailer of the two. Something quite different, but worth the 2 minutes to watch. Let me know what you guys think of this find.

Will the Watchmen make over/under $100 Million Opening Weekend?

This week has been filled with everything revolving around the Watchmen, from pics, trailers, vids, and even the motion comic. Guess what, we’re not done yet. The craze is just getting going as today is opening day of the Watchmen. I have my ticket ready and night planned out to get a delicious burger dinner at Ray’s Hells Burger in Arlington and then off to Ballston mall for the movie right after.

I have been reading everything that has been thrown at me and more from the rest of the movie fans and fans of the graphic novel alike. This movie will be big, but how big? Snyder’s 2007 release “300″ made $70 million opening weekend and Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” made $155 million opening weekend.

How much will The Watchmen make opening weekend? I am giving the over under at $100 million dollars.

Reasons it may go over

1. Considered one of the greatest novels of all time

2. Solid reviews and tons of huge buzz surrounding the movie

3. Relatively no competition

Reasons it may stay under

1. Complicated story may not stick with viewers

2. No big name stars attached and epic (2.45 hrs)

3. Rated R

It will be interesting to see how much money this movie will make opening weekend. Do you think it will go over or stay under $100 million?

The Watchmen

, highly anticipated movie based off the graphic novel that is considered one of the greatest novels of all time will be here in 2 days. Fans of the novel like me are counting down the minutes while others who have lives laugh behind us. I could care less and instead talk about the upcoming movie with all those others who have been looking forward to this for some time.
